We had the Cairns Festival recently and I enjoyed a couple of great events. I went to "Slick" by Caravan of Love, with Pauline and ran into Choony and Andrew (small town...no really, small town!)
This one in particular was most memorable. I loved this risque, burlesque group, from Melbourne. They perfectly timed their delivery and were completely convincing with the individual characters created. The concept was solid and well though out. (Do I sound like a Drama teacher?).
The highlight and lowlight was the support group who were local and woeful. The 'MC' was horrendous with a savage Russian accent only an Australian could butcher. It was fingernails down the blackboard every time she spoke and I longed for the good 'ol' Shakespearian days when you were well within your rights to lob a rotten tomato at the offending 'actor' and I use that term lightly in her case.
That said the pole dancing can-can girl was very impressive, as was the stripping male juggler...enough said!
